Thetransmissionfluidshouldbecheckedatnormaloperating
temperature150°F-170°F(66°C-77°C)onalevelsurface.Thenormal
operatingtemperaturecanbereachedafterapproximately20miles(30
km)ofdriving.
Youcancheckthefluidwithoutdrivingiftheambienttemperatureis
above50°F(10°C).However,iffluidisaddedatthistime,anoverfill
conditioncouldresultwhenthevehiclereachesnormaloperating
temperature.
Thetransmissionfluidshouldbein
thisrangeifatnormaloperating
temperature(150°F-170°F
[66°C-77°C]).
Thetransmissionfluidshouldbein
thisrangeifatambienttemperature
(50°F-95°F
[10°C-35°C]).
Highfluidlevel
Fluidlevelsabovethesaferange
mayresultintransmissionfailure.
Anoverfillconditionoftransmission
fluidmaycauseshiftand/or
engagementconcernsand/orpossibledamage.
Highfluidlevelscanbecausedbyanoverheatingcondition.
Adjustingautomatictransmissionfluidlevels
Beforeaddinganyfluid,makesurethecorrecttypeisused.Thetypeof
fluidusedisnormallyindicatedonthedipstickandalsointhe
Lubricantspecificationssectioninthischapter.
Useofanon-approvedautomatictransmissionfluidmaycause
internaltransmissioncomponentdamage.
Ifnecessary,addfluidin1/2pint(250ml)incrementsthroughthefiller
tubeuntiltheleveliscorrect.
