Filling the tank
Theadvertisedfuelcapacityofthefueltankonyourvehicleisequalto
theratedrefillcapacityofthefueltankaslistedintheRefillcapacities
sectionofthischapter.
Theadvertisedcapacityistheamountoftheindicatedcapacityandthe
emptyreservecombined.Indicatedcapacityisthedifferenceinthe
amountoffuelinafulltankandatankwhenthefuelgaugeindicates
empty.Emptyreserveisthesmallamountoffuelremaininginthefuel
tankafterthefuelgaugeindicatesempty.
Theamountofusablefuelintheemptyreservevariesandshould
notbereliedupontoincreasedrivingrange.Whenrefuelingyour
vehicleafterthefuelgaugeindicatesempty,youmightnotbe
abletorefuelthefullamountoftheadvertisedcapacityofthe
fueltankduetotheemptyreservestillpresentinthetank.

anerrorinthereadingwillresultiftheengineisleftrunning.

Calculating fuel economy
1.
Fillthefueltankcompletelyandrecordtheinitialodometerreading
(inmilesorkilometers).
2.
Eachtimeyoufillthetank,recordtheamountoffueladded(in
gallonsorliters).
3.
Afteratleastthreetofivetankfill-ups,fillthefueltankandrecord
thecurrentodometerreading.
4.
Subtractyourinitialodometerreadingfromthecurrentodometer
reading.
