NOTE: This light only show s that the parking brake is
on. It does not show the degree of brake application.
CAUTION!
Ifyouskipmorethanonegearwhiledownshifting
ordownshiftattoohighanenginespeed,youcould
damagetheengine,transmission,orclutch.
If the parking brake is applied while the vehicle is
moving, a chim e will sou nd to alert the driver. The chim e
will sou nd up to 10 times or until the vehicle has
retu rned to a stop .
To maintain a safe speed and prolong brake life, shift
down to 2nd or 1st when descend ing a steep grad e.
Before leaving the vehicle, make sure that the parking
brake is set. To set the parking brake, pull up firm ly on
the lever. Also place the gear selector in the Park position
(autom atic transaxle) or Reverse (manu al transaxle). To
release the parking brake, apply the brake pedal, pull up
slightly on the lever, then depress the button on the end
of the lever and push the lever fully down tow ard the
floor.

When turning a corner, or driving up a steep grad e,
downshift early so that the engine will not be overbu r-
dened .
PARKINGBRAKE
When the parking brake is applied with the
ignition on, the Brake Light in the instru ment
cluster will come on.
