canskidlikeanyothervehicle.
Avoidsuddenapplicationsofpowerandquickchangesofdirectionon
snowandice.Applytheacceleratorslowlyandsteadilywhenstarting
fromafullstop.
Whenbraking,applythebrakesasyounormallywould.Inordertoallow
theanti-lockbrakesystem(ABS)tooperateproperly,keepsteady
pressureonthebrakepedal.
Makesureyouallowsufficientdistancebetweenyouandothervehiclesfor
stopping.Driveslowerthanusualandconsiderusingoneofthelowergears.
DRIVING THROUGH WATER
Ifdrivingthroughdeeporstandingwaterisunavoidable,proceedvery
slowlyespeciallyifthedepthisnotknown.Neverdrivethroughwater
thatishigherthanthebottomofthehubs(fortrucks)orthebottomof
thewheelrims(forcars).Tractionorbrakecapabilitymaybelimited
andyourvehiclemaystall.Watermayalsoenteryourengine’sairintake
andseverelydamageyourengine.
Oncethroughthewater,alwaysdrythebrakesbymovingyourvehicle
slowlywhileapplyinglightpressureonthebrakepedal.Wetbrakesdo
notstopthevehicleasquicklyasdrybrakes.Drivingthroughdeep
waterwherethetransmissionventtubeortransfercasevent
tube(4x4vehiclesonly)aresubmergedmayallowwaterintothe
transmissionortransfercaseandcauseinternal
transmission/transfercasedamage.
