functiontogetherwiththeairbagsincertaintypesofcrashes.
WhenyouturnOFFyourairbag,younotonlylosethe
protectionoftheairbag,youalsomayreducetheeffectiveness
ofyoursafetybeltsystem,whichwasdesignedtoworkwiththe
airbag.Mostvehicleswithfullbackseatsdonothavecut-off
switches,butNHTSAandTransportCanadawillallowacut-off
switchtobeinstalledonrequestforacertaincategoryof
personswhomustrideupfrontandthereisaconcernabout
ridingthere.Pleaseseetheguidancebelow.

transportedinfront,thepassengerairbagmustbeturnedOFF.
Thisisbecausethebackoftheinfantseatistooclosetothe
inflatingairbagandtheriskofafatalinjurytotheinfantwhen
theairbaginflatesissubstantial.
Thevastmajorityofdriversandpassengersovertheageof12yearsare
muchsaferwithanairbagthanwithout.Todotheirjobandreducethe
riskoflifethreateninginjuries,airbagsmustopenwithgreatforce,and
thisforcecanposeapotentiallydeadlyriskinsomesituations,
particularlywhenafrontseatoccupantisnotproperlybuckledup.The
mosteffectivewaytoreducetheriskofunnecessaryairbaginjuries
withoutreducingtheoverallsafetyofthevehicleistomakesureall
occupantsareproperlyrestrainedinthevehicle,especiallyinthefront
seat.Thisprovidestheprotectionofsafetybeltsandpermitstheairbags
toprovidetheadditionalprotectiontheyweredesignedtoprovide.If
youchoosetodeactivateyourairbag,youarelosingtheverysignificant
riskreducingbenefitsoftheairbagandyouarealsoreducingthe
