Seating and Safety Restraints
WARNING: Thisvehiclehasspecialenergymanagementsafety
beltsforthedriverandrightfrontpassenger.Theseparticular
beltsarespecificallydesignedtoworkwithairbagstohelp
reducetheriskofinjuryinacollision.Theenergymanagement
safetybeltisdesignedtogiveorreleaseadditionalbelt
webbinginsomeaccidentstoreduceconcentrationofforceon
anoccupant’schestandreducetheriskofcertainbone
fracturesandinjuriestounderlyingorgans.Inacrash,iftheair
bagisturnedOFF,thisenergymanagementsafetybeltmight
permitthepersonwearingthebelttomoveforwardenoughto
incuraseriousorfatalinjury.Themoreseverethecrash,and
theheaviertheoccupant,thegreatertheriskis.Besuretheair
bagisturnedONforanypersonwhodoesnotqualifyunderthe
NHTSAdeactivationcriteria.
TransportCanadagivespermissiontoinstallairbagcut-off
switchesinthefollowingterms:
1.
Infant:Aninfant(lessthan1yearold)mustrideinthefrontseat
because:
•
•
myvehiclehasnorearseat;
therearseatinmyvehiclecannotaccommodatearear-facinginfant
seat;or
•
theinfanthasamedicalconditionwhich,accordingtotheinfant’s
physician,makesitnecessaryfortheinfanttorideinthefrontseatso
thatthedrivercanmonitortheinfant’ scondition.
2.
Childage12orunder:Achildage12orundermustrideinthe
frontseatbecause:
•
•
myvehiclehasnorearseat;
althoughchildrenage12andunderrideintherearseatwhenever
possible,childrenage12andunderhavenooptionbuttosometimes
rideinthefrontseatbecauserearseatspaceisinsufficient;or
thechildhasamedicalconditionthat,accordingtothechild’s
physician,makesitnecessaryforthechildtorideinthefrontseatso
thatthedrivercanmonitorthechild’ scondition.

Medicalcondition:Apassengerhasamedicalconditionthat,
accordingtohisorherphysician:
•

posesaspecialriskforthepassengeriftheairbagdeploys;and
makesthepotentialharmfromthepassengerairbagdeployment
greaterthanthepotentialharmfromturningOFFtheairbagand
experiencingacrashwithouttheprotectionofferedbytheairbag
