Note:UseofMotorcraftCoolingSystemStopLeakPelletsoran
equivalentproductmeetingFordspecificationWSS-M99B37-B6,may
darkenthecolorofMotorcraftPremiumGoldEngineCoolantfrom
yellowtogoldentan.
Note:Forthe2.3Lengine,whenaddingmorethan1quart(.95L)of
coolantitisnecessarytousethecoolantbleedvalve.Failuretobleed
thecoolingsystemwhenaddingenginecoolantmaycauseengine
damage.RefertotheCoolingsectionoftheWorkshopManual.

Donotadd/mixanorange-colored,extendedlifecoolantsuch
asMotorcraftSpecialtyOrangeEngineCoolant,meetingFord
specificationWSS-M97B44-D,orDEX-COOL௡brandwiththe
factory-filledcoolant.MixingMotorcraftSpecialtyOrangeEngine
Coolantoranyorange-coloredextendedlifeproductsuchas
DEX-COOL௡brandwithyourfactoryfilledcoolantcanresultin
degradedcorrosionprotection.

Alargeamountofwaterwithoutenginecoolantmaybeadded,incase
ofemergency,toreachavehicleservicelocation.Inthisinstance,the
coolingsystemmustbedrainedandrefilledwitha50/50mixtureof
enginecoolantanddistilledwaterassoonaspossible.Wateralone
(withoutenginecoolant)cancauseenginedamagefromcorrosion,
overheatingorfreezing.

Donotusealcohol,methanol,brineoranyenginecoolants
mixedwithalcoholormethanolantifreeze(coolant).Alcohol
andotherliquidscancauseenginedamagefromoverheatingor
freezing.
Donotaddextrainhibitorsoradditivestothecoolant.These
canbeharmfulandcompromisethecorrosionprotectionoftheengine
coolant.
Toreducetheriskofpersonalinjury,makesuretheengineis
coolbeforeunscrewingthecoolantpressurereliefcap.The
coolingsystemisunderpressure;steamandhotliquidcancomeout
forcefullywhenthecapisloosenedslightly.
Addthepropermixtureofcoolantandwatertothecoolingsystemby
followingthesesteps:
1.
Beforeyoubegin,turntheengineoffandletitcool.
2.
pressurereliefcaponthecoolantreservoir(anopaqueplasticbottle).
Slowlyturncapcounterclockwise(left)untilpressurebeginstorelease.
Whentheengineiscool,wrapathickclotharoundthecoolant
