Manyparentssaytheyprefertoput
aninfantorasmallchildinthefront
passengerseatsotheycanwatchthe
child,orbecausethechildrequires
attention.
Placethelargestchildinthefront
seat,providedthechildislarge
enoughtowearthelap/shoulder
beltproperly(seepage47 ).
Placingachildinthefrontseat
exposesthechildtohazardsina
frontalcollision,andpayingclose
attentiontoachilddistractsthe
driverfromtheimportanttasksof
driving,placingbothofyouatrisk.
Neverputaseatbeltoveryourself
andachild.Duringacrash,the
beltcouldpressdeepintothechild
andcauseseriousorfatalinjuries.
Movethevehicleseatasfartothe
rearaspossible(seepage 92 ).
Ifachildrequiresclosephysical
attentionorfrequentvisual
contact,westronglyrecommend
thatanotheradultridewiththe
childinabackseat.Thebackseat
isfarsaferforachildthanthe
front.
Havethechildsituprightandwell
backintheseat(seepage15).
Neverlettwochildrenusethe
sameseatbelt.Iftheydo,they
couldbeveryseriouslyinjuredina
crash.
