Ifyoutakeyourvehicleforan
emissionstestshortlyafterthe
batteryhasbeendisconnectedor
gonedead,itmaynotpassthetest.
Thisisbecauseofcertain‘‘readiness
codes’’thatmustbesetintheon-
boarddiagnosticsfortheemissions
systems.Thesecodesareerased
whenthebatteryisdisconnected,
andsetagainonlyafterseveraldays
ofdrivingunderavarietyof
Ifthetestingfacilitydeterminesthat
thereadinesscodesarenotset,you
willberequestedtoreturnatalater
datetocompletethetest.Ifyoumust
getthevehicleretestedwithinthe
nexttwoorthreedays,youcan
conditionthevehicleforretestingby
doingthefollowing.
4.Withouttouchingtheaccelerator
pedal,starttheengine,andletit
idlefor20seconds.
5.KeepthevehicleinPark
(automatic)orneutral(manual).
Increasetheenginespeedto2,000
rpm,andholditthereuntilthe
temperaturegaugerisestoatleast
1/4ofthescale(about3minutes).
1.Makesurethegastankisnearly,
butnotcompletely,full(around
3/4).

pedal,lettheengineidlefor20
seconds.
