I4engineand3.0LV6Duratec௡engine:Yourvehicleis
equippedwithanElectricPowerSteering(EPS)system.Thereisno
fluidreservoirtocheckorfill.
Ifyourvehicleloseselectricalpowerwhileyouaredriving(orifthe
ignitionisturnedoff),youcansteerthevehiclemanually,butittakes
moreeffort.Extremecontinuoussteeringmayincreasetheeffortittakes
foryoutosteer.Thisoccurstopreventinternaloverheatingand
permanentdamagetoyoursteeringsystem.Ifthisshouldoccur,youwill
neitherlosetheabilitytosteerthevehiclemanuallynorwillitcause
permanentdamage.Typicalsteeringanddrivingmaneuverswillallowthe
systemtocoolandsteeringassistwillreturntonormal.
TheEPSsystemhasdiagnosticchecksthatcontinuouslymonitorthe
EPSsystemtoensureproperoperation.Whenasystemerroris
detected,thefollowingmessageSERVICEPOWERSTEERING,SERVICE
POWERSTEERINGNOWorPOWERSTEERINGASSISTFAULTmay
displayinthemessagecenter,refertotheMessagecenterinthe
InstrumentClusterchapterformoreinformation.
WARNING:TheEPShasdiagnosticschecksthatcontinuously
monitortheEPStoensureproperoperationoftheelectronic
system.Whenanelectronicerrorisdetected,themessagePOWER
STEERINGASSISTFAULTwillbedisplayedinthemessagecenter.If
thishappens,stopthevehicleinasafeplace,andturnofftheengine.
Afteratleast10seconds,resetthesystembyrestartingtheengine,
andwatchthemessagecenterforPOWERSTEERINGASSISTFAULT.
Ifthemessagereturns,orreturnswhiledriving,takethevehicleto
yourdealertohaveitchecked.Withthemessagedisplayed,the
steeringassististurnedoff,makingthevehiclehardertosteer.
WARNING:IfthemessageSERVICEPOWERSTEERINGis
displayedinthemessagecenter,theEPShasdetecteda
problemwiththesystemfunction.Onthenextkeycyclethemessage
SERVICEPOWERSTEERINGNOWwillbedisplayedandsteering
assistwillberemoveduntilthesteeringsystemisserviced.Haveyour
vehicletakentothenearestdealerassoonaspossible.
