Calculating fuel economy
1.
Fillthefueltankcompletelyandrecordtheinitialodometerreading
(inmilesorkilometers).

Eachtimeyoufillthetank,recordtheamountoffueladded(in
gallonsorliters).
3.
Afteratleastthreetofivetankfill-ups,fillthefueltankandrecord
thecurrentodometerreading.
4.
Subtractyourinitialodometerreadingfromthecurrentodometer
reading.
5.
Followoneofthesimplecalculationsinordertodeterminefuel
economy:
Calculation1:Dividetotalmilestraveledbytotalgallonsused.
Calculation2:Multiplylitersusedby100,thendividebytotal
kilometerstraveled.
Keeparecordforatleastonemonthandrecordthetypeofdriving(city
orhighway).Thiswillprovideanaccurateestimateofthevehicle’sfuel
economyundercurrentdrivingconditions.Additionally,keepingrecords
duringsummerandwinterwillshowhowtemperatureimpactsfuel
economy.Ingeneral,lowertemperaturesgivelowerfueleconomy.
