Whenevercoolanthasbeenadded,thecoolantlevelinthecoolant
reservoirshouldbecheckedthenextfewtimesyoudrivethevehicle.If
necessary,addenough50/50concentrationofenginecoolantand
distilledwatertobringtheliquidleveltotheproperlevel.
Ifyouhavetoaddmorethan1.0quart(1.0liter)ofenginecoolantper
month,haveyourauthorizeddealerchecktheenginecoolingsystem.
Yourcoolingsystemmayhavealeak.Operatinganenginewithalow
levelofcoolantcanresultinengineoverheatingandpossibleengine
damage.
Recycled engine coolant
FordMotorCompanydoesNOTrecommendtheuseofrecycledengine
coolantsinceaFord-approvedrecyclingprocessisnotyetavailable.
Usedenginecoolantshouldbedisposedofinanappropriate
manner.Followyourcommunity’sregulationsandstandardsforrecycling
anddisposingofautomotivefluids.
Coolant refill capacity
Tofindouthowmuchfluidyourvehicle’scoolingsystemcanhold,refer
toMaintenanceproductspecificationsandcapacitiesinthischapter.
FillyourenginecoolantreservoirasoutlinedinAddingenginecoolant
inthissection.
Severe climates
Ifyoudriveinextremelycoldclimates(lessthan–34°F[–36°C]):

Itmaybenecessarytoincreasethecoolantconcentration
above50%.

NEVERincreasethecoolantconcentrationabove60%.
Acoolantconcentrationof60%willprovidefreezepoint
protectiondownto-62°F[-52°C].Increasedenginecoolant
concentrationsabove60%willdecreasetheoverheat
protectioncharacteristicsoftheenginecoolantandmaycause
enginedamage.

Ifavailable,refertothechartonthecoolantcontainerto
ensurethecoolantconcentrationinyourvehiclewillprovide
adequatefreezeprotectionatthetemperaturesinwhichyou
driveinthewintermonths.
