supplementalrestraintsystem,itsfusesortheseatcoverona
seatcontaininganairbag.SeeyourFordorLincolnMercurydealer.
Alloccupantsofthevehicleincludingthedrivershouldalways
weartheirsafetybeltsevenwhenanairbagSRSisprovided.
How does the side air  bag system work?
Thesideairbagsystemconsistsof
thefollowing:
Aninflatablenylonbag(airbag)
withagasgeneratorconcealed
behindtheoutboardbolsterof
thedriverandfrontpassenger
seatbacks.
Aspecialseatcoverdesignedto
allowairbagdeployment.
Thesamewarninglight,
electroniccontrolanddiagnostic
unitasusedforthefrontair
bags.
Thetwosidesensorsarelocated
onthelowerportionofthe
b-pillar.
Sideairbags,incombinationwithseatbelts,canhelpreducetheriskof
severeinjuriesintheeventofasignificantsideimpactcollision.
Thesideairbagsarefittedontheoutboardsideoftheseatbacksofthe
frontseats.Incertainlateralcollisions,theairbagonthesideaffected
bythecollisionwillbeinflated,eveniftherespectiveseatisnot
occupied.Theairbagwasdesignedtoinflatebetweenthedoorpanel
andoccupanttofurtherenhancetheprotectionprovidedoccupantsin
sideimpactcollisions.
