Operating modes of the 4x4 system
The4x4systemfunctionsintwomodes:

The4x4AUTOmodeprovides
four-wheeldrivewithfullpower
deliveredtothefrontaxleatall
times,andtotherearaxleas
requiredforincreasedtraction.
Thisisappropriatefornormal
on-roadoperatingconditions,
suchasdryroadsurfaces,wet
pavement,snowandgravel.

The4x4ONmodeprovides
four-wheeldrivewithfullpower
tobothaxlesatalltimes.Itis
onlyintendedforsevereor
off-roaddrivingconditions,such
asdeepsnowandice(whereno
dryorwetpavementremains
uncovered)andshallowsandor
mud.

Thevehicleshouldnotbeoperatedinthe4x4ONmodeondry
ormerelywetpavement.Doingsowillproduceexcessivenoise,
increasetirewearandmaydamagedrivelinecomponents.The
4x4ONmodeisintendedforuseonlyonconsistentlyslippery
orloosesurfaces.
Ifyourvehicleisequippedwiththis4x4system,asparetireof
adifferentdiameterthantheroadtiresshouldneverbeused.
Suchatirecouldresultindamagetodrivelinecomponentsand
makethevehicledifficulttocontrol.
Utilityandfour-wheeldrivevehiclesarenotdesignedfor
corneringatspeedsashighaspassengercarsanymorethan
low-slungsportscarsaredesignedtoperformsatisfactorilyunder
off-roadconditions.Avoidsharpturnsorabruptmaneuversinthese
vehicles.
