Donotoperatethestarterformorethan
secondsatatime.Iftheenginedoes
not start, turn the key off and wait 10
seconds before cranking again, other-
wisethestartercouldbedamaged.
The starter is designed not to operate if the
selector lever is in one of the driving posi-
tions.

The CVT in your vehicle is electronically con-
trolledbyatransmissioncontrolmoduletopro-
ducemaximumpowerandsmoothoperation.

Crank the engine with your foot off the
accelerator pedal by turning the ignition
key to START. Release the key when the
enginestarts.Iftheenginestarts,butfailsto
run,repeattheaboveprocedure.
Shown on the following pages are the recom-
mendedoperatingproceduresforthistransmis-
sion.Followtheseproceduresformaximumve-
hicleperformanceanddrivingenjoyment.

Warm-up
Allow the engine to idle for at least 30

extremely cold weather or when restarting,
depress the accelerator pedal a little (ap-
proximately1/5tothefloor)andholditthen
crank the engine. Release the key and the
acceleratorpedalwhentheenginestarts.

After starting the engine, fully depress the foot
brakepedalbeforeshiftingtheselectorleverto
theR(Reverse),N(Neutral),D(Drive),S(Sec-

When the engine is very hard to start be-
cause it is flooded, depress the accelerator
pedal all the way to the floor and hold it.
Crank the engine for 5 to 6 seconds. After
cranking the engine, release the accelerator
pedal.Cranktheenginewithyourfootoff
the accelerator pedal by turning the igni-
tionkeytoSTART.Releasethekeywhenthe
enginestarts.Iftheenginestarts,butfailsto
run,repeattheaboveprocedure.
This CVT model is designed so that the
foot brake pedal must be depressed be-
fore shifting from P (Park) to any drive
positionwhiletheignitionswitchisON.
Theselectorlevercannotbemovedoutof
P(Park)positionandintoanyoftheother
shift range if the ignition key is turned to
the LOCK, OFF or ACC position or if the
keyisremovedfromtheswitch.
