Oiladditives
NISSAN does not recommend the use of oil
additives. The use of an oil additive is not
necessarywhentheproperoiltypeisusedand
maintenanceintervalsarefollowed.
Oil which may contain foreign matter or has
beenpreviouslyusedshouldnotbeused.
Oilviscosity
The engine oil viscosity or thickness changes
withtemperature.Becauseofthis,itisimportant
that the engine oil viscosity be selected based
onthetemperaturesatwhichthevehiclewillbe
operatedbeforethenextoilchange.Therecom-
mendedSAEviscositynumberchartshowsthe
recommended oil viscosities for the expected
ambienttemperatures.Choosinganoilviscosity
otherthanthatrecommendedcouldcauseseri-
ousenginedamage.

Selectingthecorrectoil
IfyoucannotfindengineoilwiththeAPIcertifi-
cation mark, use an API grade SG/SH, Energy
ConservingI&IIorAPIgradeSJorSL,Energy
conserving oil. An oil with a single designation
SGorSH,orincombinationwithothercatego-
ries (for example, SG/CC or SG/CD) may also
be used if one with the API certification mark
cannotbefound.AnILSACgradeGF-I,GF-IIor
GF-IIIoilcanalsobeused.
Itisessentialtochoosethecorrectquality,and
viscosityoiltoensuresatisfactoryenginelifeand
performance.NISSANrecommendstheuseofa
lowfrictionoil(energyconservingoil)inorderto
improvefueleconomyandconserveenergy.Oils
which do not have the specified quality label
shouldnotbeusedastheycouldcauseengine
damage.
Selectingthecorrectoilfilter
Yournewvehicleisequippedwithahigh-quality
genuineNISSANoilfilter.Whenreplacing,use
the genuine oil filter or its equivalent for the
reasondescribedinchangeintervals.
OnlythoseengineoilswiththeAmericanPetro-
leumInstitute(API)certificationmarkonthefront
NISSANrecommendsmineralbasedoils.These
oilsmusthowever,meettheAPIqualityandSAE
