After the hitch is removed, seal the
boltholestopreventexhaustfumes,
waterordustfromenteringthepas-
sengercompartment.
Always use a suitable chain between your ve-
hicle and the  trailer. The chain should be
crossedandshouldbeattachedtothehitch,not
to the vehicle bumper or axle. Be sure to leave
enough slack in the chain to permit turning
corners.

Regularly check all hitch mounting
boltsaresecurelymounted.

Alwayssecureitemsinthetrailertoprevent
loadshiftswhiledriving.
To reduce the possibility of  addi-
tional damage  if your vehicle  is
struckfromtherear,wherepractical,
remove the  hitch and/or receiver
whennotinuse.
Trailerlights
Becertainyourrearviewmirrorsconformto
all federal, state or local regulations. If not,
installanymirrorsrequiredfortowingbefore
drivingthevehicle.
Trailer lights should comply with federal and/or
local regulations. When wiring the vehicle for
towing, connect the stop and tail light pickup
into the vehicle electrical circuit at a point be-
tweenthesensorandstoplightorlightswitch.

Neverconnectatrailerbrakesystem
directlytothevehiclebrakesystem.
Inordertogainskillandanunderstandingofthe
vehicle’s behavior, you should practice turning,
stoppingandbackingupinanareawhichisfree
from traffic. Steering stability, and braking per-
formancewillbesomewhatdifferentthanunder
normaldrivingconditions.
Trailerbrakes
Ifyourtrailerisequippedwithabrakingsystem,
make sure it conforms to federal and/or local
regulationsandthatitisproperlyinstalled.
Tirepressures

Whentowingatrailer,inflatethevehicletires
totherecommendedcoldtirepressureindi-
cated on the tire placard (located on the
driver’sdoorcenterpillar).

Trailer tire condition, size, load rating and
properinflationpressureshouldbeinaccor-
dancewiththetrailerandtiremanufacturers’
