careful when starting or driving on
slippery surfaces with the AWD lock
switchsetinOFF(AUTO).

IftheAWDLOCKswitchisoperatedwhileacceleratingordecelerating,orifthekeyswitchis
turnedoffwhileintheAUTOorLOCKposition,youmayfeelajerk.Thisisnormal.

Theoiltemperatureofpowertrainpartswillincreaseifthevehicleiscontinuouslyoperatedunder
conditionswherethedifferenceinrotationbetweenthefrontandrearwheelsislarge(wheelslip)
suchaswhendrivingthevehicleonroughroadsthroughsand,mudorfreeingastuckvehicle.In
thesecases,theAWDwarninglightblinksrapidlyandtheAWDmodechangesto2WDtoprotect
thepowertrainparts.Ifyoustopdrivingwiththeengineidlingandwaituntilthewarninglightstops
blinking,theAWDreturnstotheAUTOmode.
¼ When turning the vehicle in LOCK
modeonpavedroads,youmayfeela
braking effect. This is a normal con-
ditionoftheAWDmodel.
