HowTheAirbagSystemWorks

The Occupant Restraint Control (ORC) Module de-
terminesifafrontalorsidecollisionissevereenough
torequirethefrontand/orsideairbagstoinflate.The
frontairbaginflatorsaredesignedtoprovidedifferent
ratesofairbaginflationfromdirectionprovidedbythe
ORC.

TheORCalsomonitorsthereadinessoftheelectronic
partsofthesystemwhenevertheignitionswitchisin

mentpanel,andthesteeringwheelandcolumn.Ifthe
keyisintheLOCKposition,intheACCposition,or
notintheignition,theairbagsarenotonandwillnot
inflate.
