TheORCalsoturnsontheAirbagWarning
Light for 2.5 to 8 seconds for a self-check
whentheignitionisfirstturnedon.Afterthe
self-check, the Airbag Warning Light will
• locatedThe DriverintheandcenterPassengerofthesteeringAirbag/InflatorwheelandUnitstherightare
sideoftheinstrumentpanel.WhentheORCdetectsa
collision requiring the airbags, it signals the inflator
units.Alargequantityofnontoxicgasisgeneratedto
inflatethefrontairbags.Differentairbaginflationrates
arepossible,basedoncollisionseverityandoccupant
size.Thesteeringwheelhubtrimcoverandtheupper
right side of the instrument panel separate and fold
outofthewayasthebagsinflatetotheirfullsize.The
bagsfullyinflateinabout50to70milliseconds.Thisis
abouthalfofthetimeittakestoblinkyoureyes.The
bagsthenquicklydeflatewhilehelpingtorestrainthe
driverandfrontpassenger.
turnoff.IftheORCdetectsamalfunctioninanypart
of the system, it turns on the Airbag Warning Light
either momentarily or continuously. A single chime
willsoundifthelightcomesonagainafterinitialstart
up.

Ignoring the Airbag Warning Light in your instru-
mentpanelcouldmeanyouwon’thavetheairbagsto
protectyouinacollision.Ifthelightdoesnotcome
on,staysonafteryoustartthevehicle,orifitcomes
onasyoudrive,havetheairbagsystemcheckedright
away.
Thedriverfrontairbaggasisventedthroughthevent
holes in the sides of the airbag. The passenger front
airbaggasisventedthroughtheventholesinthesides
oftheairbag.Inthisway,theairbagsdonotinterfere
withyourcontrolofthevehicle.
