Brake/Transmission Shift Interlock System
WARNING!
ThisvehicleisequippedwithaBrakeTransmissionShift
Interlock System (BTSI) that holds the shift lever in the
PARKpositionwhentheignitionswitchisintheLOCK
position. To move the shift lever out of the PARK
position,theignitionswitchmustbeturnedtotheONor
START position (engine running or not) and the brake
pedalmustbepressed.
ItisdangeroustomovetheshiftleveroutofPARKor
NEUTRAL if the engine speed is higher than idle
speed.Ifyourfootisnotfirmlyonthebrakepedal,
the vehicle could accelerate quickly forward or in
reverse.Youcouldlosecontrolofthevehicleandhit
someoneorsomething.Onlyshiftintogearwhenthe
engine is idling normally and when your foot is
firmlyonthebrakepedal.
Brake/Transmission Interlock Manual Override
Yourvehiclemaybeequippedwithashiftlockmanual
override.Themanualoverridemaybeusedintheevent
thattheshiftlevershouldfailtomovefromPARKwith
thekeyintheONpositionandthebrakepedalpressed.
To operate the shift lock manual override, perform the
followingsteps:

Key Ignition Park Interlock
ThisvehicleisequippedwithaKeyIgnitionParkInter-
lockwhichrequirestheshiftlevertobeplacedinPARK
priortorotatingthekeytotheLOCKposition.Thekey
canonlyberemovedfromtheignitionwhentheignition
isintheLOCKpositionandonceremovedtheshiftlever 1. Turn the key to the ON position but do not start the
islockedinPARK.
