Yourvehicleisequippedwithanemissioncontrolsystem(thecatalyticconverterispartof
thissystem)thatenablesyourvehicletocomplywithexistingexhaustemissions
requirements.
WARNING
Neverparkoverornearanythingflammable:
Parkingoverornearanythingflammable,suchasdrygrass,isdangerous.Evenwith
theengineturnedoff,theexhaustsystemremainsveryhotafternormaluseand
couldigniteanythingflammable.Aresultingfirecouldcauseseriousinjuryordeath.
CAUTION
Ignoringthefollowingprecautionscouldcauseleadtoaccumulateonthecatalyst
insidetheconverterorcausetheconvertertogetveryhot.Eitherconditionwill
damagetheconverterandcausepoorperformance.
ØUSEONLYUNLEADEDFUEL.
ØDonotdriveyourMazdawithanysignofenginemalfunction.
ØDonotcoastwiththeignitionswitchedoff.
ØDonotdescendsteepgradesingearwiththeignitionswitchedoff.
ØDonotoperatetheengineathighidleformorethan5minutes.
ØDonottamperwiththeemissioncontrolsystem.Allinspectionsandadjustments
mustbemadebyaqualifiedtechnician.
ØDonotpush-startorpull-startyourvehicle.

UnderU.S.federallaw,anymodificationtotheoriginal-equipmentemissioncontrolsystembefore
thefirstsaleandregistrationofavehicleissubjecttopenalties.Insomestates,suchmodification
madeonausedvehicleisalsosubjecttopenalties.
NOTE
Whiletheengineisoff,thesoundofavalveopeningandclosingcanbeheardattherearoftheright
sideofthevehicle,howeverthisdoesnotindicateanabnormality.Yourvehiclehasaself-checking
deviceanditoperateswhiletheengineisoff.
