Thefactthattheairbagsdidnotinflateinacollisiondoesnotmeanthat
somethingiswrongwiththesystem.Rather,itmeanstheforceswere
notofthetypesufficienttocauseactivation.Sideairbagsaredesigned
toinflateinside-impactcollisions,notroll-over,rear-impact,frontalor
near-frontalcollisions,unlessthecollisioncausessufficientlateral
deceleration.
Severalairbagsystem
componentsgethotafter
inflation.Donottouchthemafter
inflation.
Ifthesideairbaghasdeployed,theairbagwillnotfunction
again.Thesideairbagsystem(includingtheseat)mustbe
inspectedandservicedbyaqualifiedtechnicianinaccordance
withthevehicleservicemanual.Iftheairbagisnotreplaced,the
unrepairedareawillincreasetheriskofinjuryinacollision.
Determiningifthesystemisoperational
TheSRSusesareadinesslightintheinstrumentclusteroratoneto
indicatetheconditionofthesystem.RefertotheAirbagreadiness
sectionintheInstrumentclusterchapter.Routinemaintenanceofthe
sideairbagisnotrequired.
