Important child restraint precautions
YouarerequiredbylawtousesafetyrestraintsforchildrenintheU.S.
andCanada.Ifsmallchildren(generallychildrenwhoarefouryearsold
oryoungerandwhoweigh18kg[40lbs]orless)rideinyourvehicle,
youmustputtheminsafetyseatsmadeespeciallyforchildren.Check
yourlocalandstateorprovinciallawsforspecificrequirements
regardingthesafetyofchildreninyourvehicle.Whenpossible,always
placechildrenunderage12intherearseatofyourvehicle.Accident
statisticssuggestthatchildrenaresaferwhenproperlyrestrainedinthe
rearseatingpositionsthaninthefrontseatingposition.
Neverletapassengerholdachildonhisorherlapwhilethe
vehicleismoving.Thepassengercannotprotectthechildfrom
injuryinacollision.
Alwaysfollowtheinstructionsandwarningsthatcomewithanyinfantor
childrestraintyoumightuse.
Children and safety belts
Ifthechildisthepropersize,restrainthechildinasafetyseat.Children
whoaretoolargeforchildsafetyseats(asspecifiedbyyourchildsafety
seatmanufacturer)shouldalwayswearsafetybelts.
Followalltheimportantsafetyrestraintandairbagprecautionsthat
applytoadultpassengersinyourvehicle.
