Safety belt pretensioner
Yourvehicleisequippedwithsafetybeltpretensionersatthedriverand
frontpassengerseatingpositions.
Thesafetybeltpretensionersaredesignedtoactivateduringcertain
frontalornear-frontalcollisionswithsufficientlongitudinaldeceleration.
Asafetybeltpretensionerisadevicewhichtightensthewebbingofthe
lapandshoulderbeltsinsuchawaythattheyfitmoresnuglyagainst
thebody.
Thedriverandfrontoutboardpassengersafetybeltsystem(including
retractors,bucklesandheightadjusters)mustbereplacedifthevehicle
isinvolvedinacollisionthatresultsintheactivationofthesafetybelt
pretensioners.RefertotheSafetybeltmaintenancesectioninthis
chapter.
Failuretoreplacethesafetybeltassemblyundertheabove
conditionscouldresultinseverepersonalinjuriesintheeventof
acollision.
Lap belts
Adjustingthecenterlapbelt
Thelapbeltdoesnotadjustautomatically.
Thelapbeltshouldfitsnuglyandaslowaspossiblearoundthe
hips,notacrossthewaist.
Insertthetongueintothecorrect
buckle(thebuckleclosesttothe
directionthetongueiscoming
from).Tolengthenthebelt,turnthe
tongueatarightangletothebelt
andpullacrossyourlapuntilit
reachesthebuckle.Totightenthe
belt,pullthelooseendofthebelt
throughthetongueuntilitfitssnuglyacrossthehips.
