Starting the engine

Turnthekeyto3(RUN)without
turningthekeyto4(START).If
thereisdifficultyinturningthekey,
rotatethesteeringwheeluntilthe
keyturnsfreely.Thisconditionmay
occurwhen:

thefrontwheelsareturned
afrontwheelisagainstthecurb
Turnthekeyto4(START),then
releasethekeyassoonasthe
enginestarts.Excessivecrankingcoulddamagethestarter.
Note:Iftheenginedoesnotstartwithinfivesecondsonthefirsttry,
turnthekeyto1(LOCK),wait10secondsandtryagain.
Using the engine block heater (if equipped)
Anengineblockheaterwarmstheenginecoolantwhichaidsinstarting
andheater/defrosterperformance.Useofanengineblockheateris
stronglyrecommendedifyouliveinaregionwheretemperaturesreach
-23°
C(-10°F)orbelow.Forbestresults,plugtheheaterinatleast
threehoursbeforestartingthevehicle.Theheatercanbepluggedinthe
nightbeforestartingthevehicle.
Toreducetheriskofelectricalshock,donotuseyourheater
withungroundedelectricalsystemsortwo-pronged(cheater)
adapters.
Guarding against exhaust fumes
Carbonmonoxideispresentinexhaustfumes.Takeprecautionstoavoid
itsdangerouseffects.
Ifyousmellexhaustfumesinsideyourvehicle,haveyourdealer
inspectyourvehicleimmediately.Donotdriveifyousmell
exhaustfumes.
Important ventilating information
Iftheengineisidlingwhilethevehicleisstoppedforalongperiodof
time,openthewindowsatleast2.5cm(oneinch)oradjusttheheating
orairconditioningtobringinfreshair.
