Safety belt maintenance
Inspectthesafetybeltsystemsperiodicallytomakesuretheywork
properlyandarenotdamaged.Inspectthesafetybeltstomakesure
therearenonicks,tearsorcuts.Replaceifnecessary.Allsafetybelt
assemblies,includingretractors,buckles,frontseatbeltbuckle
assemblies,bucklesupportassemblies(slidebar-ifequipped),shoulder
beltheightadjusters(ifequipped),shoulderbeltguideonseatback(if
equipped),childsafetyseatLATCHandtetheranchors,andattaching
hardware,shouldbeinspectedafteracollision.FordMotorCompany
recommendsthatallsafetybeltassembliesusedinvehiclesinvolvedina
collisionbereplaced.However,ifthecollisionwasminorandaqualified
technicianfindsthatthebeltsdonotshowdamageandcontinueto
operateproperly,theydonotneedtobereplaced.Safetybeltassemblies
notinuseduringacollisionshouldalsobeinspectedandreplacedif
eitherdamageorimproperoperationisnoted.
Failuretoinspectandifnecessaryreplacethesafetybelt
assemblyundertheaboveconditionscouldresultinsevere
personalinjuriesintheeventofacollision.
