STARTINGPROCEDURE
IfEngineFailstoStart
StarttheenginewiththeselectorleverintheN(Neutral)
or P (Park) position.Apply the brake before shifting to
anydrivingrange.
If the engine fails to start after you have followed the
normal starting procedure, it may be flooded. Push the
acceleratorpedalallthewaytothefloorandholditthere
whilecrankingtheengine.Thisshouldclearanyexcess
fuelincasetheengineisflooded.
NormalStarting—GasolineEngines
Donotpresstheaccelerator.Turntheignitionkeybriefly
toSTARTposition,andreleaseit.Thestartermotorwill
continue to run, but will automatically disengage itself
whentheengineisrunning.
NOTE: Topreventdamagetothestarter,donotcrank
theengineformorethan15secondsatatime.Wait10to
15secondsbeforetryingagain.

NOTE: Thestartermotormayrunupto30secondsin
very cold conditions until the engine is started. The
startercanbedisengagedbyturningtheignitionkeyto
theOFFposition,ifrequired.
Iftheenginehasbeenflooded,itmaystarttorun,butnot
haveenoughpowertocontinuerunningwhenthekeyis
released.Ifthisoccurs,continuecrankingwiththeaccel-
eratorpedalpushedallthewaytothefloor.Releasethe
acceleratorpedalandthekeyoncetheengineisrunning
smoothly.
