Whenyouturntheignitionswitchto
theSTART (III)position,youdonot
hearthenormalnoiseoftheengine
tryingtostart.Youmayheara
clickingsound,aseriesofclicks,or
nothingatall.
Turntheignitionswitchtothe
START (III)position.Ifthe
headlightsdonotdim,checkthe
conditionofthefuses.Ifthefuses
areOK,thereisprobably
somethingwrongwiththe
Youhearnothing,oralmost
nothing.Theengine’sstarter
motordoesnotoperateatall,or
operatesveryslowly.

Checkthesethings:
Checkthetransmissioninterlock.
ThetransmissionmustbeinPark
orneutralorthestarterwillnot
operate.
Youcanhearthestartermotor
operatingnormally,orthestarter
motorsoundslikeitisspinning
fasterthannormal,buttheengine
doesnotstartupandrun.
Iftheheadlightsdimnoticeablyor
gooutwhenyoutrytostartthe
engine,eitherthe12voltbatteryis
dischargedortheconnectionsare
corroded.Checktheconditionof
the12voltbatteryandterminal
connections(seepage309).You
canthentryjumpstartingthe
vehiclefromabooster12volt
battery(seepage319).
TurntheignitionswitchtotheON
(
II)position.Turnonthe
headlights,andchecktheir
brightness.Iftheheadlightsare
verydimordonotcomeonatall,
thebatteryisdischarged.See
