emissionscontrolsystemsare
separatefromthecrankcaseand
evaporativeemissionscontrol
systems.
IgnitionTimingControlSystem
Thissystemconstantlyadjuststhe
ignitiontiming,reducingtheamount
ofHC,CO,andNOxproduced.
ReplacementParts
Theemissionscontrolsystemsare
designedandcertifiedtoworkto-
getherinreducingemissionsto
levelsthatcomplywiththeCleanAir
Act.Tomakesuretheemissions
remainlow,youshoulduseonlynew
Hondareplacementpartsortheir
equivalentforrepairs.Usinglower
qualitypartsmayincreasethe
emissionsfromyourvehicle.
ExhaustGasRecirculation(EGR)
System
Theexhaustgasrecirculation(EGR)
systemtakessomeoftheexhaust
gasandroutesitbackintotheintake
manifold.Addingexhaustgastothe
air/fuelmixturereducestheamount
ofNOxproducedwhenthefuelis
burned.

coveredbywarrantiesseparatefrom

ThePGM-FIsystemusessequential
multiportfuelinjection.
ThreeWayCatalyticConverter
Thethreewaycatalyticconverteris
intheexhaustsystem.Through
chemicalreactions,itconvertsHC,
CO,andNOxintheengine’sexhaust
Ithasthreesubsystems:airintake,
enginecontrol,andfuelcontrol.The
powertraincontrolmodule(PCM)
usesvarioussensorstodetermine
howmuchairisgoingintothe
engine.Itthencontrolshowmuch
fueltoinjectunderalloperating
conditions.
