thoughyoumayfeelnodifferencein
yourvehicle’sperformance,itcan
reduceyourfueleconomyandcause
increasedemissions.Continued
conditionstosetthecodesagain.
Tocheckiftheyareset,turnthe
ignitionswitchtotheON(II)
operationmaycauseseriousdamage. If you keep driving with the
Malfunction Indicator Lamp on, you
can damage your vehicle’s emissions
controls and engine. Those repairs may
not be covered by your vehicle’s
warranties. This indicator may also
come on with the ‘‘D’’ indicator.

theinformationdisplay.Tightenthe
capuntilitclicksatleastonce.
ReadinessCode
Tighteningthecapwillnotturnthe
indicatoroffimmediately;itcantake
severaldaysofnormaldriving.
Yourvehiclehascertain‘‘readiness
codes’’thatarepartoftheon-board
diagnosticsfortheemissions
systems.Insomestates,partofthe
emissionstestingistomakesure
thesecodesareset.Iftheyarenot
set,thetestcannotbecompleted.
