TestingofReadinessCodes
Ifyoutakeyourvehicleforan
emissionstestshortlyafterthe
batteryhasbeendisconnectedor
gonedead,itmaynotpassthetest.
Thisisbecauseofcertain‘‘readiness
codes’’thatmustbesetintheon-
boarddiagnosticsfortheemissions
systems.Thesecodesareerased
whenthebatteryisdisconnected,
andsetagainonlyafterseveraldays
ofdrivingunderavarietyof
Ifthetestingfacilitydeterminesthat
thereadinesscodesarenotset,you
willberequestedtoreturnatalater
datetocompletethetest.Ifyoumust
getthevehicleretestedwithinthe
nexttwoorthreedays,youcan
conditionthevehicleforretestingby
doingthefollowing.
4.Withouttouchingtheaccelerator
pedal,starttheengine,andletit
idlefor20seconds.
5.KeepthevehicleinPark.Increase
theenginespeedto2,000rpm,and
holditthereuntilthetemperature
gaugerisestoatleast1/4ofthe
scale(about3minutes).
