light illuminates
Lightturnsonsolid:
ThismeansthattheOBDIIsystemhasdetecteda
malfunction.
TemporarymalfunctionsmaycauseyourService
EngineSoonlighttoilluminate.Examplesare:

Thevehiclehasrunoutoffuel.(Theenginemay
misfireorrunpoorly.)

Poorfuelqualityorwaterinthefuel.
Thefuelcapmaynothavebeenproperlyinstalled
andsecurelytightened.
Thesetemporarymalfunctionscanbecorrectedby
fillingthefueltankwithgoodqualityfueland/or
properlyinstallingandsecurelytighteningthegas
cap.Afterthreedrivingcycleswithouttheseorany
othertemporarymalfunctionspresent,theService
EngineSoonlightshouldturnoff.(Adrivingcycle
consistsofacoldenginestartupfollowedbymixed
city/highwaydriving.)Noadditionalvehicleserviceis
required.
IftheServiceEngineSoonlightremainson,have
yourvehicleservicedatthefirstavailable
opportunity.
Lightisblinking:
Enginemisfireisoccurringwhichcoulddamageyour
catalyticconverter.Youshoulddriveinamoderate
fashion(avoidheavyaccelerationanddeceleration)
andhaveyourvehicleservicedatthefirstavailable
opportunity.
Underenginemisfireconditions,excessive
exhausttemperaturescoulddamagethe
catalyticconverter,thefuelsystem,interiorfloor
coveringsorothervehiclecomponents,possibly
causingafire.
