Trailer towing tips

Practiceturning,stoppingandbackingupbeforestartingonatripto
getthefeelofthevehicletrailercombination.Whenturning,make
widerturnssothetrailerwheelswillclearcurbsandotherobstacles.

Allowmoredistanceforstoppingwithatrailerattached.
Thetrailertongueweightshouldbe10–15%oftheloadedtrailer
weight.

Afteryouhavetraveled80km(50miles),thoroughlycheckyour
hitch,electricalconnectionsandtrailerwheellugnuts.
Toaidinengine/transmissioncoolingandA/Cefficiencyduringhot
weatherwhilestoppedintraffic,placethegearshiftleverinP(Park)
(automatictransmission)orN(Neutral)(manualtransmissions).

Vehicleswithtrailersshouldnotbeparkedonagrade.Ifyoumust
parkonagrade,placewheelchocksunderthetrailer’swheels.
Launching or retrieving a boat
Whenbackingdownarampduringboatlaunchingorretrieval,

Donotallowthestaticwaterleveltoriseabovethebottomedgeof
therearbumper.
Donotallowwavestobreakhigherthan15cm(6inches)abovethe
bottomedgeoftherearbumper.
Exceedingtheselimitsmayallowwatertoentercriticalvehicle
components,adverselyaffectingdriveability,emissions,reliability
andcausinginternaltransmissiondamage.
Replacetherearaxlelubricantanytimetheaxlehasbeen
submergedinwater.Rearaxlelubricantquantitiesarenottobe
checkedorchangedunlessaleakissuspectedorrepairrequired.
Disconnectthewiringtothetrailerbeforebackingthetrailerintothe
water.Reconnectthewiringtothetrailerafterthetrailerisremoved
fromthewater.Waterenteringtheseareas,whileconnected,could
short-circuitthesystem.
