STARTING AND OPERATING
BRAKE SYSTEM
Anti-Lock Brake System
In the event power assist is lost for any reason (for
exam ple, rep eated brake applications with the engine
off), the brakes will still function. The effort requ ired to
brake the vehicle will be much greater than that requ ired
with the power system operating.
The Anti-Lock Brake System provid es increased vehicle
stability and brake perform ance und er most braking
cond itions. The system autom atically “pumps” the
brakes during severe braking cond itions to prevent
wheel lock-u p.
Your vehicle is equ ipped with dual hyd rau lic
brake system s. If either of the two hyd rau lic
system s lose norm al capability, the rem aining
system will still function. There will be som e
loss of overall braking effectiveness. This may be evid ent
by increased pedal travel during application, greater
pedal force requ ired to slow or stop , and potential
activation of the Brake Warning Lamp.
WARN ING!
Pumping of the Anti-Lock Brak es will diminish
their effectiven ess and may lead to an accid ent.
Pumping makes the stop ping distan ce lon ger. Just
press firm ly on you r brak e pedal when you need to
slow down or stop .
