Also check belt rou ting to make sure there is no interfer-
ence betw een the belts and other engine components.
WARN ING!
The air clean er can provid e a measu re of protection
in the case of engin e backfire. Do not rem ove the air
clean er unless such rem oval is necessary for rep air or
main ten ance. Make sure that no one is near the
engin e compartm ent before startin g the veh icle with
the air clean er rem oved . Failu re to do so can resu lt in
seriou s person al injury.
Spark Plugs
Spark plugs must fire prop erly to assu re engine perfor-
mance and emission control. New plugs shou ld be in-
stalled at the specified mileage. The entire set shou ld be
rep laced if there is any malfunction due to a faulty spark
plug. Malfu nctioning spark plugs can damage the cata-
lytic converter. For prop er typ e of rep lacem ent spark
plugs, refer to the “Vehicle Emission Control Inform a-
tion” label in the engine compartm ent.
Fuel Filter
A plugged fuel filter can cause stalling, limit the speed at
which a vehicle can be driven or cause hard starting. 7
Shou ld an excessive amount of dirt accumulate in the
fuel tank, filter rep lacem ent may be necessary. See you r
local dealer for service.
Engine Air Cleaner Filter
Und er norm al driving cond itions, rep lace the air filter at
the intervals show n on Sched ule “A”. If, how ever, you
drive the vehicle frequ ently und er dusty or severe con-
ditions, the filter elem ent shou ld be insp ected period i-
cally and rep laced if necessary at the intervals show n on
Sched ule “B”.
