dangerous.Thesuddenchangeintire

wheels.
DonotrelyonABSasasubstitutefor
safedriving:
TheABScannotcompensatefor
unsafeandrecklessdriving,excessive
speed,tailgating(followinganother
vehicletooclosely),drivingoniceand
snow,andhydroplaning(reducedtire
frictionandroadcontactbecauseof
waterontheroadsurface).Youcan
stillhaveanaccident.
Whendrivingoniceorinwater,snow,
mud,sand,orsimilarhazard:
Becautiousandallowextradistance

forbraking.
Avoidsuddenbrakingandquick

steering.
Ifyourvehicleisnotequippedwith

ABS,brakewiththepedalbyusinga
lightup-downmotion.Donotholdthe
pedaldownconstantly.
IfyourvehicleisequippedwithABS,
donotpumpthebrakes.Continueto
pressdownonthebrakepedal.
Ifyougetstuck,selectalowergearand

accelerateslowly.Donotspintherear
wheels.
