Increasedstoppingdistanceorthe
vehiclepullingtoonesidewhen
brakingcouldresultinaserious
accident.Lightbrakingwillindicate
whetherthebrakeshavebeenaffected.
Shouldpower-assistfail,youcanstopby
applyinggreaterforcethannormaltothe
brakepedal.Butthedistancerequiredto
stopwillbegreaterthanusual.
WARNING
qParkingBrake
Donotcoastwiththeenginestalledor
turnedoff,findasafeplacetostop:
Coastingwiththeenginestalledor
turnedoffisdangerous.Brakingwill
requiremoreeffort,andthebrake's
power-assistcouldbedepletedifyou
pumpthebrake.Thiswillcause
longerstoppingdistancesorevenan
accident.
WARNING
Beforeleavingthedriver'sseat,
alwayssettheparkingbrakeand
makesuretheshiftleverisinPwith
anautomatictransmissionorin1orR
withamanualtransmission:
Leavingthedriver'sseatwithout
settingtheparkingbrakeandtheshift
leverisdangerous.Unexpectedvehicle
movementcouldoccur.Thiscould
causeanaccident.
Shifttoalowergearwhengoingdown
steephills:
Drivingwithyourfootcontinuously
onthebrakepedalorsteadilyapplying
thebrakesforlongdistancesis
dangerous.Thiscausesoverheated
brakes,resultinginlongerstopping
distancesoreventotalbrakefailure.
Thiscouldcauselossofvehicle
controlandaseriousaccident.Avoid
continuousapplicationofthebrakes.
CAUTION
Drivingwiththeparkingbrakeonwill
causeexcessivewearofthebrake
liningsorpads.
