Foroptimumprotection,thedriverand
passengerseatbeltsareequippedwith
pretensionerandloadlimitingsystems.
Forboththesesystemstoworkproperly
youmustweartheseatbeltproperly.
Incorrectpositioningofthedriverand
passengerseatbeltsisdangerous.
Withoutproperpositioning,the
pretensionerandloadlimitingsystems
cannotprovideadequateprotectionin
anaccidentandthiscouldresultin
seriousinjury.Formoredetailsabout
wearingseatbelts,referto“Fastening
theseatbelts”(page2-8).
Pretensioners:
Inmoderateorseverefrontalornear-
frontalaccidents,theairbagand
pretensionersystemsdeploy
simultaneouslywhentheseatbeltisworn.
Iftheseatoccupantisnotwearingaseat
belt,thatperson'spretensionerwillnot
fireeveniftheairbagdoes.Theseatbelt
retractorsremoveslackquicklyastheair
bagsareexpanding.
Inaddition,thepretensionersystemfor
thepassenger,likethepassengerairbag,
isdesignedtoonlydeployinaccordance
withthetotalseatedweightonthe
passengerseat(page2-37)orwhenthe
passengerairbagdeactivationswitch
turnedoff(page2-30).Anytimetheair
bagsandseatbeltpretensionershavefired
theymustbereplaced.
Haveyourseatbeltschanged
immediatelyifthepretensionerorload
limiterhasbeenexpended:
Iftheairbagsdeploythe
correspondingpretensioner(s)may
alsodeployatthesametime.Whileit
issafertouseacrash-usedseatbelt
thatwasusedinanaccidentthanno
seatbeltatall,usingaseatbeltwith
anexpendedpretensionerorload
limiterloadedreducesthesafety
availabletoyou.Liketheairbags,the
seatbeltpretensionerswillonly
functiononce.Aftertheyare
expended,theywillnotfunctionagain
andmustbereplacedimmediately.If
theseatbeltpretensionersarenot
replaced,theriskofinjuryina
collisionwillincrease.Alwayshavean
AuthorizedMazdaDealerinspectthe
seatbeltpretensionersandairbags
afteranycollision.Expendedseatbelt
pretensionersandairbagsmustbe
replacedafteranycollisionwhich
causedthemtodeploy.Additionally,
theloadlimiterwillonlylimitloadson
thechestonceinacollisionandthisis
anotherreasontohavetheseatbelts
inspected.
Loadlimiter:
Theloadlimitingsystemreleasesbelt
webbinginacontrolledmannertoreduce
beltforceontheoccupant'schest.While
themostsevereloadonaseatbeltoccurs
infrontalcollisions,theloadlimiterhas
anautomaticmechanicalfunctionandcan
activateinanyaccidentmodewith
sufficientoccupantmovement.
Evenifthepretensionershavenotfired,
theloadlimitingfunctionmustbe
checkedbyanAuthorizedMazdaDealer.
