position.Thesystemisdesignedtohelpprotectsmallerdriverssitting
closetothedriverairbagbyprovidingalowerairbagoutputlevel.
Frontpassengersensingsystem
Forairbagstodotheirjobtheymustinflatewithgreatforce,andthis
forcecanposeapotentiallydeadlyrisktooccupantsthatareveryclose
totheairbagwhenitbeginstoinflate.Forsomeoccupants,thisoccurs
becausetheyareinitiallysittingveryclosetotheairbag.Forother
occupants,thisoccurswhentheoccupantisnotproperlyrestrainedby
safetybeltsorchildsafetyseatsandtheymoveforwardduringpre-crash
braking.Themosteffectivewaytoreducetheriskofunnecessary
injuriesistomakesurealloccupantsareproperlyrestrained.Accident
statisticssuggestthatchildrenaremuchsaferwhenproperlyrestrained
intherearseatingpositionsthaninthefront.

NEVERplacearear-facingchildseatinfrontofanactiveair
bag.Ifyoumustuseaforward-facingchildseatinthefrontseat,move
theseatallthewayback.
WARNING:Whenpossible,allchildren12yearsoldandunder
shouldbeproperlyrestrainedinarearseatingposition.
Thefrontpassengersensingsystemcanautomaticallyturnoffthe
passengerfrontairbag.Thesystemisdesignedtohelpprotectsmall
(childsize)occupantsfromairbagdeploymentswhentheyare
improperlyseatedorrestrainedinthefrontpassengerseatcontraryto
properchild-seatingorrestraintusagerecommendations.Evenwiththis
technology,parentsareSTRONGLYencouragedtoalwaysproperly
restrainchildrenintherearseat.Thesensoralsoturnsoffthepassenger
frontairbagandseat-mountedsideairbagwhenthepassengerseatis
emptytopreventunnecessaryreplacementofairbag(s)afteracollision.
