Inanunavoidableemergencysituationwhereasuddensharpturn
mustbemade,remembertoavoid“over-driving”yourvehicle(i.e.,
turnthesteeringwheelonlyasrapidlyandasfarasrequiredtoavoid
theemergency).Excessivesteeringwillresultinlessvehiclecontrol,
notmore.Additionally,smoothvariationsoftheacceleratorand/or
brakepedalpressureshouldbeutilizedifchangesinvehiclespeedare
calledfor.Avoidabruptsteering,accelerationorbrakingwhichcould
resultinanincreasedriskoflossofvehiclecontrol,vehiclerollover
and/orpersonalinjury.Useallavailableroadsurfacetoreturnthe
vehicletoasafedirectionoftravel.

Intheeventofanemergencystop,avoidskiddingthetiresanddonot
attemptanysharpsteeringwheelmovements.
Ifthevehiclegoesfromonetypeofsurfacetoanother(i.e.,from
concretetogravel)therewillbeachangeinthewaythevehicle
respondstoamaneuver(steering,accelerationorbraking).Again,
avoidtheseabruptinputs.
AWDSystems(ifequipped)
AWDusesallfourwheelstopowerthevehicle.Thisincreasestraction,
enablingyoutodriveoverterrainandroadconditionsthata
conventionaltwo-wheeldrivevehiclecannot.
Sand
Whendrivingoversand,trytokeepallfourwheelsonthemostsolid
areaofthetrail.Avoidreducingthetirepressuresbutshifttoalower
gearanddrivesteadilythroughtheterrain.Applytheacceleratorslowly
andavoidspinningthewheels.
Whendrivingatslowspeedsindeepsandunderhighoutside
temperatures,useL(Low)gearwhenpossible.L(Low)gearoperation
willmaximizetheengineandtransmissioncoolingcapability.
Undersevereoperatingconditions,theA/Cmaycycleonandoffto
protectoverheatingoftheengine.
Avoidexcessivespeedbecausevehiclemomentumcanworkagainstyou
andcausethevehicletobecomestucktothepointthatassistancemay
berequiredfromanothervehicle.Remember,youmaybeabletoback
outthewayyoucameifyouproceedwithcaution.
Mudandwater
Ifyoumustdrivethroughhighwater,driveslowly.Tractionorbrake
capabilitymaybelimited.
