downshiftingtoalowergearfromahighergearoncetheascenthas
started.Thisreducesstrainontheengineandthepossibilityofstalling.
Ifyoudostallout,Donottrytoturnaroundbecauseyoumightrollover.
Itisbettertobackdowntoasafelocation.
Applyjustenoughpowertothewheelstoclimbthehill.Toomuch
powerwillcausethetirestoslip,spinorlosetraction,resultinginlossof
vehiclecontrol.
Descendahillinthesamegearyou
wouldusetoclimbupthehillto
avoidexcessivebrakeapplication
andbrakeoverheating.Donot
descendinneutral;instead,
disengageoverdriveormanually
shifttoalowergear.When
descendingasteephill,avoid
suddenhardbrakingasyoucould
losecontrol.Thefrontwheelshave
tobeturninginordertosteerthe
vehicle.
Yourvehiclehasanti-lockbrakes,thereforeapplythebrakessteadily.Do
not“pump”thebrakes.

AWDvehicleshaveadvantagesover2WDvehiclesinsnowandicebut
canskidlikeanyothervehicle.
Shouldyoustarttoslidewhiledrivingonsnowyoricyroads,turnthe
steeringwheelinthedirectionoftheslideuntilyouregaincontrol.
Avoidsuddenapplicationsofpowerandquickchangesofdirectionon
snowandice.Applytheacceleratorslowlyandsteadilywhenstarting
fromafullstop.
Avoidsuddenbrakingaswell.AlthoughanAWDvehiclemayaccelerate
betterthanatwo-wheeldrivevehicleinsnowandice,itwon’tstopany
faster,becauseasinothervehicles,brakingoccursatallfourwheels.Do
notbecomeoverconfidentastoroadconditions.
Makesureyouallowsufficientdistancebetweenyouandothervehicles
forstopping.Driveslowerthanusualandconsiderusingoneofthelower
