How to disengage the automatic locking mode
Disconnectthecombinationlap/shoulderbeltandallowittoretract
completelytodisengagetheautomaticlockingmodeandactivatethe
vehiclesensitive(emergency)lockingmode.
Fordrecommendsthatallsafetybeltassembliesandattaching
hardwareshouldbeinspectedbyaqualifiedtechnicianafterany
collision.Safetybeltassembliesnotinuseduringacollisionshouldalso
beinspectedandreplacedifeitherdamageorimproperoperationis
noted.
Afteranyvehiclecollision,thefrontpassengerandrearoutboard
seatbeltsystemsmustbecheckedbyaqualifiedtechnicianto
verifythatthe“automaticlockingretractor”featureforchildseatsis
stillfunctioningproperly.Inaddition,allseatbeltsshouldbechecked
forproperfunction.
BELTANDRETRACTORASSEMBLYMUSTBEREPLACEDif
theseatbeltassembly“automaticlockingretractor”featureor
anyotherseatbeltfunctionisnotoperatingproperlywhenchecked
accordingtotheproceduresinWorkshopManual.
FailuretoreplacetheBeltandRetractorassemblycould
increasetheriskofinjuryincollisions.
Safety belt pretensioner
Yourvehicleisequippedwithsafetybeltpretensionersatthedriverand
frontpassengerseatingpositions.
Thesafetybeltpretensionerisadevicewhichremovesexcesswebbing
fromthesafetybeltsystem.Thesafetybeltpretensionerusesthesame
crashsensorsystemasthefrontairbagsupplementalrestraintsystem
(SRS).Whenthesafetybeltpretensionerdeploys,webbingfromthelap
andshoulderbeltistightened.Thedriverandfrontpassengerseatbelt
system(includingretractors,bucklesandheightadjusters)mustbe
replacedifthevehicleisinvolvedinacollisionthatresultsin
deploymentoffrontairbagsandsafetybeltpretensioners.Refertothe
Safetybeltmaintenancesectioninthischapter.
