Forced Downshifts
Togainaccelerationin
(Overdrive)orDrive(O/DOFF)when
passinganothervehicle,pushtheacceleratortothefloor.The
transmissionwilldownshifttotheappropriategear:third,secondorfirst
gear.
Shift strategy (4R100 automatic transmission)
Toaccountforcustomerdrivinghabitsandconditions,your4R100
automatictransmissionelectronicallycontrolstheshiftqualitybyusing
anadaptivelearningstrategy.Theadaptivelearningstrategyis
maintainedbypowerfromthebattery.Whenthebatteryisdisconnected
oranewbatteryisinstalled,thetransmissionmustrelearnitsadaptive
strategy.Optimalshiftingwillresumewithinafewhundredkilometers
(miles)ofoperation.
Iftheshiftqualitydoesnotimprovewithinafewhundred
kilometers(miles)ofoperation,orifthedownshiftsandother
throttleconditionsdonotfunctionnormally,seeyourdealerora
qualifiedservicetechnicianassoonaspossible.
DRIVING THROUGH WATER
Donotdrivequicklythroughstandingwater,especiallyifthedepthis
unknown.Tractionorbrakecapabilitymaybelimitedandiftheignition
systemgetswet,yourenginemaystall.Watermayalsoenteryour
engine’sairintakeandseverelydamageyourengine.
Ifdrivingthroughdeeporstandingwaterisunavoidable,proceedvery
slowly.Neverdrivethroughwaterthatishigherthanthebottomofthe
hubs(fortrucks)orthebottomofthewheelrims(forcars).
Oncethroughthewater,alwaystrythebrakes.Wetbrakesdonotstop
thevehicleaseffectivelyasdrybrakes.Dryingcanbeimprovedby
movingyourvehicleslowlywhileapplyinglightpressureonthebrake
pedal.
Drivingthroughdeepwaterwherethetransmissionventtubeis
submergedmayallowwaterintothetransmissionandcause
