Driving while you tow
Whentowingatrailer:

Turnoffthespeedcontrol.Thespeedcontrolmayshutoff
automaticallywhenyouaretowingonlong,steepgrades.

Consultyourlocalmotorvehiclespeedregulationsfortowingatrailer.
Toeliminateexcessiveshifting,usealowergear.Thiswillalsoassist
intransmissioncooling.

Anticipatestopsandbrakegradually.
Whendescendinglong,steepdownhillgrades,alwaysusealowergearto
provideenginebrakingtosavewearonbrakes.UseDrive(Overdrive
OFF)onmoderatelysteephills,Second(2)onsteephills,andFirst(1)
onverysteephills.Donotapplyyourbrakescontinuously,asthey
mayoverheatandbecomelesseffective.
Servicing after towing
Ifyoutowatrailerforlongdistances,yourvehiclewillrequiremore
frequentserviceintervals.Refertoyourscheduledmaintenanceguidefor
moreinformation.
Trailer towing tips

Practiceturning,stoppingandbackingupbeforestartingonatripto
getthefeelofthevehicletrailercombination.Whenturning,make
widerturnssothetrailerwheelswillclearcurbsandotherobstacles.

Allowmoredistanceforstoppingwithatrailerattached.
Thetrailertongueweightshouldbe10–15%oftheloadedtrailer
weight.

Ifyouwillbetowingatrailerfrequentlyinhotweather,hilly
conditions,atGCW,oranycombinationofthesefactors,consider
refillingyourrearaxlewithsyntheticgearlube.Refertothe
Maintenanceandspecificationschapterforthelubricant
specification.

Afteryouhavetraveled80km(50miles),thoroughlycheckyour
hitch,electricalconnectionsandtrailerwheellugnuts.
Whenstoppedintrafficforlongperiodsoftimeinhotweather,place
thegearshiftinP(Park)andincreaseidlespeed.Thisaidsengine
coolingandairconditionerefficiency.
