bodyweight,cargo,andpassengers)fromtheGCW.Otherwise,
maximumtrailerweightis4536kg(10000lbs).
ForhighaltitudeoperationreduceGCWRby2%per300meters(1000
ft)elevation.
Todeterminethemaximumtrailerweightdesignedforyourparticular
vehicleasequipped,followthesectionCalculatingtheloadyour
vehiclecantow/carryearlierinthischapter.
Yourvehicle’sloadcapacityisdesignatedbyweight,notbyvolume,so
youcannotnecessarilyuseallavailablespacewhenloadingavehicle.
Distributetheloadsothatonly10to15%ofthetotalisonthetongue.
Tiedowntheloadsothatitdoesnotshiftandchangetheweightonthe
hitch.
Towingatrailerplacesanadditionalloadonyourvehicle’ sengine,
transmission,axle,brakes,tiresandsuspension.Inspectthese
componentscarefullyafteranytowingoperation.
Note:DonotexceedtheGVWRortheGAWRspecifiedonthe
certificationlabel.
Towingtrailersbeyondthemaximumrecommendedgrosstrailer
weightexceedsthelimitofthevehicleandcouldresultin
enginedamage,transmissiondamage,structuraldamage,lossofvehicle
control,vehiclerolloverandpersonalinjury.
