Thisindicatorshouldnever
1.Safelypullofftheroad,andshut
offtheengine.Turnonthehazard
warningindicators.
ChargingSystemIndicator
Ifthechargingsystem
comeonwhentheengineis
running.Ifitstartsflashingorstays
on,theoilpressurehasdroppedvery
loworlostpressure.Seriousengine
damageispossible,andyoushould
takeimmediateaction.
indicatorcomesonbrightly
whentheengineisrunning,the
batteryisnotbeingcharged.
2.Letthevehiclesitforaminute.
Openthehood,andchecktheoil
level(seepage238).Anengine
verylowonoilcanlosepressure
duringcorneringandotherdriving
maneuvers.
Immediatelyturnoffallelectrical
accessories.Trynottouseother
electricallyoperatedcontrolssuchas
thepowerwindows.Keeptheengine
running;startingtheenginewill
dischargethebatteryrapidly.
Runningtheenginewithlowoil
pressurecancauseseriousmechanical
damagealmostimmediately.Turnoff
theengineassoonasyoucansafelyget
thevehiclestopped.
3.Ifnecessary,addoiltobringthe
levelbacktothefullmarkonthe
dipstick(seepage283).
Gotoaservicestationorgarage
whereyoucangettechnical
assistance.
4.Starttheengine,andwatchtheoil
pressureindicator.Ifitdoesnotgo
outwithin10seconds,turnoffthe
engine.Thereisamechanical
problemthatneedstoberepaired
beforeyoucancontinuedriving
(seeEmergencyTowingonpage
