TestingofReadinessCodes
Ifyoutakeyourvehicleforastate
emissionstestshortlyafterthe
batteryhasbeendisconnectedor
gonedead,itmaynotpassthetest.
Thisisbecauseofcertain‘‘readiness
codes’’thatmustbesetintheon-
boarddiagnosticsfortheemissions
systems.Thesecodesareerased
whenthebatteryisdisconnected,
andsetagainonlyafterseveraldays
ofdrivingunderavarietyof
Ifthetestingfacilitydeterminesthat

pedal,starttheengine,andletit
idlefor20seconds.

Makesurethegastankisnearly,
butnotcompletely,full(around
3/4).

Withouttouchingtheaccelerator
pedal,starttheengine,andletit
idlefor20seconds.
Makesurethevehiclehasbeen
parkedwiththeengineofffor6
hoursormore.
Makesuretheambient
temperatureisbetween40°and
95°F.
