TheORCalsomonitorsthereadinessoftheelectronic
partsofthesystemwhenevertheignitionswitchisin
the START or ON position. These include all of the
itemslistedaboveexceptthePassengerAirbagDisable
(PAD) Indicator Light, the instrument panel, and the
steeringwheelandcolumn.IfthekeyisintheLOCK
position, in theACC position, or not in the ignition,
theairbagsarenotonandtheywillnotinflate.
WarningLight”eithermomentarilyorcontinuously.A
single chime will sound if the light comes on again
afterinitialstartup.

Ignoringthe“AirbagWarningLight”inyourinstru-
mentpanelcouldmeanyouwon’thavetheairbagsto
protectyouinacollision.Ifthelightdoesnotcome
on,staysonafteryoustartthevehicle,orifitcomes
onasyoudrive,havetheairbagsystemcheckedright
away.

TheORCalsoturnsonthe“AirbagWarning
Light”and“PADIndicatorLight”forsixto
eightsecondsasaself-checkwhentheigni-
tionisfirstturnedON.Aftertheself-check,
the “Airbag Warning Light” will turn off. The “PAD
IndicatorLight”willfunctionnormally(refertoinfor-
mation on PassengerAirbag Disable (PAD) Indicator
Lightinthissection).IftheORCdetectsamalfunction
in any part of the system, it turns on the “Airbag
• aTheFederallyOccupantregulatedClassificationsafety systemSystemrequired(OCS)isforpartthisof
vehicle. It is designed to turn off the front passenger
airbagforanemptyseatandforoccupantsclassified
inacategoryotherthanthatofanadult.Thiscouldbe
achild,teenager,orevenasmallsizeadult.
