Combining seat belt and LATCH lower anchors for attaching child
safety seats
Whenusedincombination,eithertheseatbeltortheLATCHlower
anchorsmaybeattachedfirst,providedaproperinstallationisachieved.
Attachthetetherstrapafterward,ifincludedwiththechildseat.Refer
toRecommendationsforattachingchildsafetyrestraintsforchildren
inthischapter.
Attaching child safety seats with tether straps
Manyforward-facingchildsafetyseatsincludeatetherstrapwhich
extendsfromthebackofthechildsafetyseatandhookstoananchoring
pointcalledthetoptetheranchor.Tetherstrapsareavailableasan
accessoryformanyoldersafetyseats.Contactthemanufacturerofyour
childseatforinformationaboutorderingatetherstrap,ortoobtaina
longertetherstrapifthetetherstraponyoursafetyseatdoesnotreach
theappropriatetoptetheranchorinthevehicle.
Therearseatingpositionsofyourvehicleareequippedwithbuilt-in
tetherstrapanchorslocatedbehindtheseatsontheroofpanelinthe
cargoarea.
Thetetherstrapanchorsinyourvehicleareinthefollowingpositions
(shownfromtopview):
Attachthetetherstraponlytothe
appropriatetetheranchorasshown.
Thetetherstrapmaynotwork
properlyifattachedsomewhere
otherthanthecorrecttether
anchor.
Oncethechildsafetyseathasbeen
installed,usingeithertheseatbelt
ortheloweranchorsoftheLATCHsystem,youcanattachthetoptether
strap.
Performthefollowingstepstoinstallachildsafetyseatwithtether
anchors:
1.
Routethechildsafetyseattetherstrapoverthebackoftheseat.
Forvehicleswithadjustableheadrestraints,removetheheadrestraint
first,placeunderthefrontseatforstorage,andthenroutethetether
strapoverthetopoftheseatback.
